Before jumping it, make sure that the edge of the ditch is safe and visible, that is, not obscured by long grass or weeds. The horse must also be able to see the far edge of the ditch.

4/13/2009 · im not a builder or do i do much xc lol…but i would suggest that after you dig the rectangle type ditch thing that are always underneath trakheners, id probably say 2ft at the deepest if its just for practise?? (sorry if that sounds ridiculous! lol) and i would definitley support the sides with something, otherwise when the horse takes off, after a while the ditch walls might collapse …
4/19/2017 · Ditch – This one I literally went in the woods with a shovel. It took half a day, but easy enough for a BN ditch . I secured it with wood beams we had laying around and filled with gravel to keep weeds out. You could make a faux ditch in the arena with a tarp/poles. We also use natural ditches on the farm reinforced with beams as ditches.

2/9/2012 · You need to make a large dip in the ground and use a liner, then so that the horses do not go through the liner you need a surface on top of this, clay is not so good as it is going to ‘stop’ the horses when they land on it. This surface has to be compacted down, usually a stone base and then sand on top. Whatever you do it will cost money.
5/1/2009 · There is usually lots of good ideas on the internet for cross country things. I found plenty of jumps that were really easy to make , just by tying logs together, or digging a ditch and placing poles in front and behind it. Cross country jumps are fun to build if you make a day of it!
